If you’re a fan of Kim Gordon, Sonic Youth or anything Kim, you’ll love this book. We got our hands on an advance copy and highly recommend it.

Sometimes, the word insightful is overused to describe a book, but it’s justified in this case. Even hardcore Sonic Youth fans will learn something and we appreciated Kim’s honesty.

Rick James, Diehards And Lita Ford Books

Here’s three books of interest.  First, the new and incredible Rick James memoir Glow just hit the shelves.  It’s a bit eerie to read a posthumously published memoir, but also incredible to relive James’ story in his own words. Read an excerpt here.

A book we’ve enjoyed lately is Diehards by Erin Feinberg, a cool collection of photos taken from the unique perspective of the fans.  Some of the audiences included in the book are fans of U2, Metallica, Foo Fighters and The Flaming Lips. The book also features original essays from Bruce Springsteen and Neil Peart.

Finally, Lita Ford announced that her book Living Like A Runaway will be out on November 11th. Ford has made several recent appearances with Cherie Currie, so it will be interesting to see her take on her time in The Runaways. Find Lita on Facebook.

Paul Stanley, founding member of Kiss and (finally) a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, releases his memoir Face The Music: A Life Exposed today.  It’s dishy enough for looky-loos. yet fans will enjoy Stanley’s honesty and surprising thoughts on some long held beliefs.  Although, don’t look for this to be the book that settles all-things-KISS.  As Stanley told The New York Daily News,  “I wrote the book about me, my life and my observations. Scott Ian /Anthrax Memoir And Heavy Metal Movies — Books Coming Soon!

Scott Ian of Anthrax has finally put together his memoirs. Set for September release from Da Capo Press, I’m The Man: The Official Story of Anthrax will look at Ian’s dysfunctional home life and his escape through the turbulent world of heavy metal. It also chronicles the complete history of Anthrax.   Ian got an assist from co-author Jon Weiderhorn who always does a great job of helping musicians find their literary voice. 

Weiderhorn co-wrote the excellent Louder Than Hell with Kathryn Turman, and they will  celebrate the release of the paperback version at Book Soup in L.A. in May with a special appearance from Ian.

Officially out March 27th, but you can probably find a copy early, is Gang of Four’s Entertainment from Kevin Dettmar. 33 1/3’s ongoing series continues to impress.

Holly George-Warren has written the first biography of Alex Chilton titled A Man Called Destruction: The Life and Music of Alex Chilton, From Box Tops to Big Star to Backdoor Man. Hard to believe this is the first biography of Chilton!

Black Francis and Josh Frank have a written a book!  Out April 15th, The Good Inn is, to quote a piece of the Introduction, “an illustrated novel, based on a soundtrack in the making, for a feature-length film yet to be made about the first narrative pornographic movie ever created.” The drawings of Steven Appleby accompany the narrative.

The Powerhouse Arena in Brooklyn will be hosting a book launch conversation and signing with Francis and Frank on April 25th.
