If you’re a fan of Kim Gordon, Sonic Youth or anything Kim, you’ll love this book. We got our hands on an advance copy and highly recommend it.

Sometimes, the word insightful is overused to describe a book, but it’s justified in this case. Even hardcore Sonic Youth fans will learn something and we appreciated Kim’s honesty.

Read an excerpt here.  Catch Kim on her book tour, many of the dates have incredible special guests.  Here’s the list.  And if you don’t believe us about how good the book is, here’s Stereogums’ take

Detroit Rock City The Uncensored History Of Rock N Roll in America’s Loudest City (Da Capo Press) finally gives Detroit the history book it deserves. Highlighting the different eras of Detroit music; 1965-1972, 1973-1981 abd 1981-2000,  Detroit’s story is told through an oral history by the people who lived it, and it’s the best way to showcase this dynamic look back.  It’s a treat to learn about some of the unique friendships between Detroit musicians and revisit some of the great bands like The Gories, The Laughing Hyenas and The Frost.

Miller argues that Detroit is the most influential music city on earth and many will debate that. But, you can’t ever dismiss Detroit’s distinct energy and “F-you” attitude in staying true to its own unique sound.

In this interview Miller states his case for Detroit, talks about the infuential music magazine Creem, and what era of Detroit music could easily have its own book.

What will you find in the new Stephen Pearcy book?

Pearcy, who, in his words, once held a “platinum card for debauchery”, tells some interesting tales, including his early life in San Diego (his high school was the inspiration for Fast Times at Ridgemont High) where he suffered a horrifying accident that should have left him unable to walk again, and the 80’s Sunset Strip scene with pals Motley Crue and Van Halen. Plus, he reveals why Bret Michaels of Poison should give him a call—Pronto!

In this interview, we talk about these stories in his memoir and what is the status of new music from Ratt.

Dee Snider Does Broadway And A New Book

Posted by on May.09, 2012, under News No Comments

Yesterday, Dee Snider unleashed his hilarious self-penned memoir Shut Up and Give Me The Mic on the masses. Dee had some doubt along the way about his writing skills and reached out to Mick Foley for some advice, but he never needed to question himself.  This is one awesome read.

And, as luck would have it, Dee has also just released his album Dee Does Broadway.  Dee starred in Rock of Ages in 2010 (and should have been cast in the upcoming movie, just sayin’) and now he puts his spin on some classics.  He’s joined on some songs by Broadway vets Patti LuPone, Bebe Neuwirth, and Celebrity Apprentice cohort Clay Aiken.

Tonight, you can catch Dee signing his book at Mendham Books at 7pm.  With Eddie Trunk and Teresa Guidice living just down the road, it could be a star filled evening.

Here’s Dee’s video for “Mack The Knife” directed by his son Cody.
