Mad World Book Interview With Lori Majewski

Posted by on May.07, 2014, under Current Shows No Comments

mad world book

The excellent Mad World book is an oral history that tells the story of New Wave from 1979-1985 through the words of the artists who epitomized, changed and shaped the genre. Lori Majewski and Jonathan Bernstein are perfect co-authors and foils.

The book starts with an introduction by Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran. Then each chapter focuses on an artist and their seminal song. Bernstein and Majewski add their take, and the artist tells their story in a monologue style.  Each chapter ends with a “then and now” update and finally, a mix tape list that guides you to other songs you might enjoy.  36 artists are included and you may think you know a lot about your favorites, but there are many surprises that unfold from the artists stories.

In this interview we highlight some of the artists in the book including Duran Duran, The Smiths and New Order, discuss the influence of New Wave on current artists and find out why a popular band fired their lead singer at the height of their popularity….and that’s just the beginning of that epic feud.

Neil Young, Rod Stewart, Pete Townsend And John Taylor Battle For Fall Memoir Crown

Posted by on Aug.01, 2012, under News No Comments

Since the success of Keith Richards’s My Life and Patti Smith’s Just Kids, publishers have been clamoring for the next best-selling rock memoir, and with the potential for a big bucks payday, more artists than ever are willing to share their story.

This weekend the New York Times published a fantastic article titled “Warts and All In New Pop Memoirs” that further explains the phenomenon, and cited memoirs by Gregg Allman, Tony Iommi and Carole King as recent examples.

When the much anticipated memoirs of Neil YoungRod StewartPete Townsend and John Taylor of Duran Duran all hit stores within weeks of each other this fall, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top and how they’ll get there; by spilling long untold secrets, rewriting their own history, or a compelling combination of both.

Posted by on Apr.06, 2012, under News No Comments

Duran Duran’s John Taylor signed a book deal last year and now,  “In The Pleasure Groove —Love, Death and Duran Duran” has got a pub date of September 25th.

We are really looking forward to seeing The Faces reunite for The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductions.  And that reminded us that Rod Stewart has a big tell-all coming out this fall.  The book is still untitled, but set for release on October 2nd.

We are so excited that the one and only Dee Snider is going to be a guest on the show next month. Dee’s book “Shut Up and Give Me The Mic” is out on May 8th (but available for autographed pre-order  here). You can catch Dee signing his book at Mendham Books, Wednesday May 9th at 7pm.
